This is one of the reason why a person’s childhood experiences play a big role in shaping how he or she is as a grown up. Kids & Fishing understands this and actively works to create positive learning opportunities for children living in underserved areas of Los Angeles. Kids & Fishing is a non-profit organization that aims to equip underprivileged children with fruitful memories and with a love for oceans and marine life. They do all of this for free and relies mostly on a cash or car donation from the concerned members of the community.

Hitting two birds with one stone

Kids & Fishing is a unique organization in that it has a two-fold mission. It aims to equip deserving children with important life skills and it also aims to make these children understand the need for healthy and clean oceans. The organization puts forth on this mission through a series of though provoking, educational, interactive activities that would bring the children closer to the oceans. The children are made to participate in supervised programs wherein they to care about marine life and see to the protection of the oceans from pollution. Under these programs, the children also get to develop various skills and values such as teamwork, responsibility, accountability, and pride in finishing a task.

Programs offered by the organization includes clean ups, tours of local aquariums, costal conservation workshops, a series of in-class lectures and seminars, and fishing trips.

Memories to last a lifetime

Skills, values, and love of the oceans are not the things that Kids & Fishing imparts to the children they take under their wings. While they learn about themselves and their environment, these children also gain memories that they can share with friends and families. They also learn to socialize and forge lasting friendships with other children in the program.

Kids & Fishing does not charge a single cent for any of the programs they offer. As mentioned above, the children get to learn and enjoy for free because all fees are covered by funding from donations and grants from generous community members.
